The Life Of Christ Lesson 9 The First Parables of Jesus Be specific and direct in the title. Use the subtitle to give the specific context of the speech. -The goal should be to capture the audience’s attention which can be done with a quote, a startling statistic, or fact. It is not necessary to include this attention getter on the slide. Luke 12:1-59 - Whom to fear? June 12, 2019

“Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees” Luke 12:1-3 “But …” The covered will be revealed. The hidden will be known. The spoken will be heard. The whispered will be proclaimed. (Matthew 10:26; Luke 8:17) The books will be opened. Revelation 20:12 Secrets will be revealed. Romans 2:16 The hidden things will be brought to light. 1 Corinthians 4:5

“I will warn you whom to fear …” Luke 12:4-7 Addressed by Jesus to “My friends” - John 15:15-17 Not those who can only harm you physically. “Nothing more that they can do” (ESV); “Unable to kill the soul.” (Matthew 10:28; cf. Hebrews 13:6; Psalms 56:4, 11) “Fear the One who … has authority to cast into hell … Fear Him!” (Colossians 3:22) James 4:12, “There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you who judge your neighbor?” Command to “fear” God. (2 Corinthians 5:9-11)

“I will warn you whom to fear …” Luke 12:4-7 Jesus again is turning the fleshly to the spiritual. Jesus is not trying to instill a trepidatious fear but trusting reverence and faith. There is great power when you combine divine reverence with unyielding trust and faith.

“Do not fear …” Luke 12:4-7 Do not fear the temporal – either those who can harm the body or the sufficiency of our temporal blessings. 1 Peter 3:14-15; John 14:27; Isaiah 51:1-7; 1 Chronicles 28:20 Have faith that God won’t forget our needs! Isaiah 44:21; 49:15; Hebrews 13:5

“Everyone who confesses Me before men …” Luke 12:8-9 Confession: Defined: “to say the same thing as another” (Thayer); “… the effect of deep conviction of facts …” (Vine). To acknowledge truth unashamedly. Who He is! That Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God and our Lord. Romans 10:9-10; Philippians 2:11; 1 John 4:2; Acts 8:37; Proverbs 3:6 Who we are! Sinners. 1 John 1:9; James 5:16; Psalms 32:5; Proverbs 28:13 – not the same as repentance! Where our hope is. Hebrews 10:23
