Seminar 10 aims Using academic sources: Summarising To raise awareness of the behaviours of strong summarisers and summarisers in need of more skills To provided oral practice of summarising skills To produce a short, written reflective paragraph which includes summary of an extract from an academic text book MBS0215

Discussion with your partner: What is a summary? What are the situations where you might summarise? What do you think the challenges are to summarising? If you had to describe your personality in five words, what would you say? Would your family, friends and colleagues agree with your answer; how would they describe your personality? MBS0215

Oral Summaries: without looking at the text 1. What is Personality: What is this about in 50 words? What is this about in 40 words? What is this about in 15 words? What is this about in 10 words? 2. What is the Big Five Model: 3. What is the relationship between personality and job performance: MBS0215

Using summaries in a paragraph Now, write a short paragraph which reflects upon one of the skills you are writing about in your reflective essay. For example, group work skills; presentation skills; writing skills; employability skills; research skills (and so on). Make reference to the Personality paragraph : do not quote. Summarise only. Include an in-text citation. Remember to use the language of reflection that we have been studying. Review weeks 15-20 for language of reflection MBS0215
