The Birth of the BOWLS SOUTHERN CAPE BOWLING ASSOCIATION In June of 1933 the George, Oudtshoorn, Mossel Bay and Knysna bowling clubs formed the SOUTH WESTERN DISTRICTS BOWLING ASSOCIATION, which became a Sub District of EASTERN PROVINCE BOWLING ASSOCIATION in December 1941 In the mid 1960’s the SOUTH AFRICAN BOWLING ASSOCIATION gave the all clear for the South Western Districts bowling association to amalgamate with the Boland bowling association to form the CAPE COUNTRY BOWLING ASSOCIATION. The SOUTHERN CAPE WOMAN'S BOWLING ASSOCIATION was founded in November 1991 the committee was chaired by Mrs BM (Beatty) Knowles of the George Bowling Club. In 1992 South Western Districts bowling association became a sub-district on its own. An application for full District status was made to the then S.A.B.A. and appeared on the agenda of the SABA’s Annual General Meeting for 16th May 1993. After Mr Anley (Chairperson of the Sub District) had addressed the meeting in support of the application, it was UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED When the district application was made the District had 25 clubs and about 1650 members
