Lets Review! Biotic Abiotic Ecosystem 4 abiotic factors Organism: two types Species Population Community Biome
How many species and how many organisms? Brown bear, western canada
Individual (one organism)? Population? Community?
Habitat A habitat is a home or location where an organism lives. Habitats can be very small or very big! Example of a small habitat and example of a large habitat
Habitat In a habitat, an organism must find 1. Food 2. Water 3. Shelter 4. Space
Niche A niche is an organism’s role (job) in the ecosystem It includes what it eats, where it lives, and what it does
Niche For example: What is the niche of a farmer? -to grow food
Niche What is the niche of a carpenter? -to build houses
Niche What is the niche of a doctor? -to keep us healthy! These people and many others make a human community work
Niche What is the niche of a beaver? It includes: -cutting down trees -building a dam -building a lodge to live in -raising a family of beavers -chewing bark and wood Building a dam to flood an area and make a pond
Niche Chipmunks -spreaders: they gather and store seeds, and acorns and berries get left behind or forgotten; seeds and berries will grow into new plants
Niche Blackberry Bush -serves as food for animals -roots help hold down the soil and help stop erosion -serve as shelter and nesting places for birds and other animals
Niche No two species have the same niche in an ecosystem For example: -moves pollen from flower -controls insect population to flower -eats carpenter ants -chisels them out of trees with its beak So both birds, but have different roles in a community
