Office of the Registrar Grades Students can access their grades online through WebAdvisor 24-hours a day. Grades are usually available the Tuesday after final exams. Starter Slide.

Office of the Registrar Record Security FERPA: Family Educational Right and Privacy Act. Parents can view student’s record only with written signed consent from the student or by providing proof of dependency (most recent tax return) Withhold Directory Information. Directory information is listed in the online student handbook, university catalog and at www.twu.edu/registrar. FERPA was put in place to protect the security of an individual’s private information. Now if it is imperative that you do see your students grades there is a way to do it. There is a form in the Registrar’s Office called a Parental Affidavit of Dependency. If can receive restricted information if you sign this form stating that you claim your student as a dependent for tax purposes. LIGHT CAUTION: Before doing this, we do encourage that you talk to you student first. (Personal Comment): While being here I have been in only a few situations when a parent had to get the affidavit. Even if of the three, one of the parents ended up not wanting the information after she submitted the form to me. There are other securities for your student in place that we would just like you to be aware of. Student have the right to Restrict all their Directory Information. This is information such as addresses, phone numbers. Also a student can change their student Personal Identification Number. Both of these are changes can be requested in the Registrar’s Office.

Office of the Registrar Important Texas Legislation Regarding Timely Completion of Degree Excess Hour Rule Repeat Rule Six-Drop Limit $1,000 Tuition Rebate Program The last thing I would like to mention is a newer piece of legislation that is positively impacting some students. This is the $1000 Tuition Rebate. The rebate actually went into effect in Fall 1997 but students are just now benefiting from it. For students who meet all guidelines will receive a rebate of $1000 after graduation. READ GUIDELINES An important thing to remember is that we are talking about a REBATE—this is not a scholarship. Remind your student to keep the rebate in mind when getting advised and registering. Also, remember that some academic experiences may in the end disqualify them from eligibility. Keep the rebate in perspective—a positive academic experience (I.e., study abroad or a specialized extra area of study, or an internship experience) might overshadow the monetary benefit of the rebate.

Office of the Registrar Excess Hours Excess hours are the number of semester credit hours over a student’s minimum degree requirements (double-major and dual degree hours are considered) 30-Hour Rule: Undergraduate students who enrolled initially in the fall 2006 semester or subsequent semesters cannot exceed more than 30 hours. Students with excess hours will be charged an additional tuition rate per semester credit hour. Applies to all Texas residents and those students who are non-resident students paying in-state tuition rates with excessive hours. Include all transfer work taken from any Texas public institution plus all TWU hours taken through the semester prior to the registration term. Excludes developmental, dual credit, credit-by-exam, & vocational/technical courses. Hours earned by the student at a private institution or out-of-state institution do not count towards excess hours. Office of the Registrar Repeat Rule Undergraduate students classified as Texas residents or who pay a Texas resident tuition rate who attempt certain courses more than twice at Texas Woman’s University are subject to an additional tuition rate. Definition of a Repeated Course: Repeated hours are defined as hours for a course that is the same or substantially similar to a course that the student has previously taken for two or more times at the same institution. Students enrolling in higher education for the first time during the fall 2007 academic term or any term subsequent to the fall 2007 term may drop a total of six courses. Drop total includes any course a transfer student has dropped at another Texas public institution of higher education. Does not apply to courses dropped prior to the census date or courses dropped with a grade of WF and does not apply if the student withdraws for the term or session. Exemptions do exist.
