Lesson 4 Good play with 3D printing (Part I)

CONTENTS I. About 3D printing II. 3D printing by manipulator III. First experience on 3D printing skills IV. Classroom summary

I. About 3D printing

Interaction How much do you know about 3D printing?

1 1 Hello, 3D printing Click here to view the video What is 3D printing technology? What is 3D printing technology?

What is 3D printing 2 3D printing is a kind of technology which is based on the digital model file and manufactures objects using powder metal or plastic and other adhesive materials by way of "layered manufacturing, layer-by-layer overlapping” .

1 3 Application of 3D printing technology Manufacture Medical treatment Consumer goods Manufacture Food 1 3

II. 3D printing by manipulator

1 1 3D print kit Extruder: Extrude part of filament Hot end: Heat part of filament 1 Consumables: Bond the materials Motor cable: Connect the manipulator and 3D print kit

2 Connect the manipulator Stepper1 Connection succeeds! Attention: determine that both feed pipe and filament are inserted against the bottom of hot end Connection succeeds! Connect the manipulator Step 5: connect the extruder to main control box Stepper1 Stepper1 Step 1: press the extruder lever with your hand, and pass the filament through the bottom hole Step 4: align the hot end wire with the manipulator port, and connect Step 3: fix the manipulator and hot end with the butterfly nut 2 Step 2: insert filament into feed pipe against the bottom of hot end, and use the quick coupling to connect feed pipe with the extruder

1 3 3D printing - cutting Double click the icon to start the software Cutting: convert the model file into 3D printer action data with the software 1 3 Double click the icon to start the software

4 Set the cutting parameters Step 1: set the parameters Step2: Step 4: connect the manipulator Set the cutting parameters Step 1: set the parameters Step 3: open the model 4 Step2: Import the configuration file Step5: Test the extruder temperature Do not touch the nozzle

4 Set the cutting parameters Discharge succeeds! Step 6: test the extruder discharge Step 7: adjust the spacing between the printing head and the glass board Step 8: print out

III. First experience on 3D printing skills

It is time to operate by yourself!

I control my manipulator Operation purpose: Get familiar with 3D printing function of the manipulator. Operation task: Import your favorite 3D model in the course folder, and according to 3D printing methods and steps covered in this lesson, set the parameters of the software, and print a 3D model by yourself. Let's witness the results learned in this lesson! Note: you can adjust the model to the appropriate size, which is preferred to be completed within 10 min.

IV. Classroom summary

Summary Please summarize the content learned in this lesson, consult me if you have any question.

After-class thinking - How to print if 3D model of more than one color is required? - Can you think of any other material that can be used as the material for 3D printing? - What are the characteristics of the 3D printing materials we use today, and the type of items that are suitable for printing?
