Section 3.4 The Colors of Light

Primary Colors The various colors of the visible spectrum have slightly different wavelengths and refract by a slightly different amount. The Primary colors of the visible spectrum are red, green and blue.

Theory of Color Addition By mixing the correct intensities of the primary colors, you will observe white light. Secondary colors are cyan, magenta and yellow. The mixing of three colors of light to produce many different colors of light is called the theory of color addition.

Television Television puts this theory of color addition into practice. By changing the brightness of the dots that make up the screen many different colors can be produced. The television works by fooling the eye into seeing colors that are not really there.

What about HD and 1080P High definition programs are encoded with a type of resolution: 720p, 1080i or 1080p. The number stands for the amount of lines embedded within the signal. The letter describes the type of scan the television uses to display the picture. The ‘i’ means interlaced and the ‘p’ means progressive.
