Define..... What does ‘DESIGNING EVERYONE IN’ mean? Write the answer in the space provided on the front of your answer books. After you have done this spend 2 minutes writing a fancy name title and your tutor group.

Designing Everyone In....mini projects 1st – A journey In The Life Of.... --- you will see a series of images then be asked to take the role of someone with a disability. You will then review the pictures and note the problems they could face. When you have noted the problems you will then see the pictures for a third time and note any design flaws that could be changed. Your task will be to re-design any element of the images. 2nd – You will see the image of a zebra crossing – individually you will use the ‘6 thinking hats’ theory of analysis – this will become clearer later on. You must then redesign a road map, and in detail show the changes that you have made to the crossing.

What is my journey like? These photos are taken to show a part of someone’s day, including travelling on different forms of transport. Think about who they are and the problems they might face.

Look at the photos and discuss: Who am I? Where am I going? What am I doing? Do I need help? What sort of products or ideas might improve or aid my journey?

Who am I? Look at the slide show again. Imagine you are one of the following people.

From their point of view: List the things that might be difficult for ……… (for example, getting on the bus, climbing stairs, seeing signs, etc). How could you be helped when you travel? What products, images, systems etc could help?

Now redesign the chosen element stating the reasons for doing so, and label all of your drawings. Add colour.

Information / Facts: What do you know, what do you need to know, how will you find out?

Benefits / Positives: Say what you see that is positive or a benefit in this picture.

Caution / Weaknesses: Point out any potential problems.

Feelings / Emotions: What do you feel about the situation in the picture?

Creativity / Alternatives: What possibilities, new ideas, alterations could improve the crossing

Organisation thinking / Thinking about thinking: What do you need to think about next? What will you do next?

Now that you have analysed the crossing and given reasons for each of the ‘6 thinking hats’ you will now have to show clearly on a map the changes you have made. If its relocating the road next to the crossing show this. If its having a designated lollipop lady on the road – show this etc.... All of your drawings must be done using a ruler as it is a road map, must be accurate to the picture, and must be full in detail and colour.
