Grade 10 set 4 Nutrients my body needs BALANCED DIET FOR A 15 YR OLD TEENAGE BOY R. Scwulst i/c, G. Meadows, T. Muller, S. Kilpin, J. MacDonald

What is a balanced diet? How do dieticians work out balanced diets for particular people? Created by: George Meadows Summary Vegetables – recommended Whole grain sources of carbohydrates –recommended Fibres – recommended Refined sugar and sugar drinks – not recommended Highly processed carbohydrates – not recommended High-glycaemic load – not recommended Omega 3 – Recommended Trans-fats – not recommended Maintenance of a healthy weight – recommended Regular physical activity – recommended Many factors make a diet a very complex thing: The main aim of a diet is to provide the optimal nutrition for energy, growth and health. People may have short term weight loss goals which mean differences to the diet must be made The person may have a disease that could get worse with a particular diet Introduction For many years, scientists have been trying to find out the perfect diet. So far, we know what is healthy and what can help a person lose weight and gain weight, but it isn’t just about losing weight. It is an incredibly complicated science in which we are still finding the answers to. What does the evidence say? Scientists have come up with lots of evidence for healthy and unhealthy things. Basic facts like fats in processed foods can lead to cardiovascular disease and many others while fruit and vegetables are very healthy, but then research finds out that fruit and vegetables can be unhealthy because of carbohydrates so we are further thrown as to what the perfect diet should be. Conclusion We still don’t know what the perfect diet is and scientists are busy researching that right now. Hopefully we will find out soon. The best we could do is stay at a ‘healthy’ weight with the right foods at the right weight. Thank you Macronutrient Problems The big debate today is over the right amount of carbohydrates, fats and protein should be consumed. Many writers have made opnions on what is right but again, it only will work for certain people.

Which foods should be included in a balanced diet and in what proportion? Created by: Toby muller A balanced diet includes protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and water. Proteins: good protein sources are nuts, beans and whole grains but good sorces of animal proteins are fish, poultry and lean red meat. For 14-18 years you need about 6.5 ounces of protein. Fats: good fats are non-saturated fats which are usually liquid and to avoid saturated fats which are usually solid. Excesive intake of fats are dangerous so balance is important. Carbohydrates: there are good and bad carbohydrates bad carbohydrates include sweats, cakes and soft drinks while good carbohydrates include whole grain, fruits and vegetables. Carbohydrates should make up the majority of your diet. Vitamins and minerals: vitamins A, B, C, D and K are vital along with minerals calcium, potassium and iron. These should be consumed for a happy life. Water: water is important for health and because we cannot store it we must consume it and need a large amount a day. http://www.pcdfoundation.org/en/staying-healthy-with-pcd/eat-a-healthy-balanced-diet

Should 15 yr old boys take supplements. Back up your answer with facts Should 15 yr old boys take supplements? Back up your answer with facts. Created by: James MacDonald (http://za.bodybuilding.com/store/teens.htm?_requestid=300682) SHOULD 15 YEAR OLDS TAKE SUPPLEMENTS? Teens have many reasons for trying to gain muscle or lose fat. Whether you want to get big and strong for sports, or whether you want to just look good for the opposite sex, the pressure to excel is enormous. Luckily, a great way to accomplish these goals while building self-esteem and avoiding drugs and alcohol is to take up different sports, do fitness and exercise. Do teens need supplements? No. You can still get great results just by working out hard and eating right. Supplements will help you get faster results though. Choosing the right supplements for you will make the difference. Teens need to also be careful not to take supplements that mess with their hormones. The rate that teenagers are growing at, they don’t need to use supplements. It would be safer and a better idea is to take them once our bodies are fully developed.
