God: Friend or Foe?// April 29th // Pastor Jason
Friend Foe
Five characteristics of TRUE FRIENDS
A true friend LISTENS
A true friend SPEAKS life
A true friend speaks TRUTH
A true friend is LOYAL
A true friend LOVES sacrificially
James 2:23 And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.” He was even called the friend of God.
Agreement is necessary Factor #1 Agreement is necessary
I will do this because Abraham listened to me Gen. 26:5 I will do this because Abraham listened to me and obeyed all my requirements, commands, decrees, and instructions.”
Loyalty and Dependability Factor #2 Loyalty and Dependability
There is no greater love than to lay down John 15:13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command. John 15:14 You are my friends if you do what I command.
The ability to be able to confide Factor #3 The ability to be able to confide
John 15:15 I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.
“Should I hide my plan from Abraham?” the LORD asked. Gen. 18:17 “Should I hide my plan from Abraham?” the LORD asked.
The question today is NOT whether God wants to be your friend. The question is DO YOU WANT TO BE A FRIEND OF GOD’S?
If we follow the example of Abraham by being in agreement with God, displaying loyalty and dependability towards God, and freely confiding in Him in all matters, then we too will be called the friends of God.
