Proposed Best Practice for Analysis, Interpretation, and Reporting of Existing Data to Promote Continuous Learning and Improvement Digital Learning Collaborative and Clinical Effectiveness Research Collaborative, National Academy of Medicine Wednesday, May 22, 2019 Lucy A. Evidence needed to inform, creating knowledge that impacts care. Knowledge – the range of one’s information or understanding Addressing the need to know – real-world data & evidence syntheses obstacles Understanding the quality/constraints of the underlying data  shared learning Reporting embedded research results providing a home

Mind the Gap How do we get from here to there? Guise JM, Savitz LA, Friedman CP. Mind the Gap: Putting Evidence into Practice in the Era of Learning Health Systems. Journal of general internal medicine. 2018 Dec 1;33(12):2237-9.

(1) length/volume of information as presented; AHRQ Learning Health Systems, ACTION Contract to AIR (Sarah Mossburg, PD) The AHRQ Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) Program wants to help LHSs use the evidence from its evidence reports to improve patient care. However, LHSs have identified several barriers – (1) length/volume of information as presented; (2) (lack of) timeliness of the evidence; (3) limited generalizability of findings due to the homogeneity of populations studied in RCTs; (4) the absence of efforts to tie the findings to required, national reporting (5) Growing number of retractions from individual studies – specifically, that evidence reports are not updated to reflect these. Inability for LHSs to contribute real-world evidence to reviews that may be several years old, and thus, potentially outdated and no longer relevant.
