What could we do better? 1 More playground staff- yes, at playtimes. Better communication- dates set at start of year will be sent to parents. Know about events in good time- as above. More guidance on how subjects are taught- website and events for parents in 19/20. Clarification of how events are funded, publishing of FOB accounts- we will look into the possibility of doing this on the FOB website page. Asked for money too often- be more aware of this especially for larger families or single parents. Trips are becoming more costly to school. We try and use budget to support this, but it is hard. More online surveys- we recognise that we need to canvas parents more frequently about their opinions. Better access to library- staffing is an issue, volunteers would help, one governor already does this. Better communication at the end of the day- teachers should be out each day apart from staff meeting (Weds). More teacher and parent interaction- more open classroom events, teachers should be out start and end of day, unless on training/ill. Forest school for all ages- more staff are being trained but we can’t afford fulltime forest school staff. It is a destructive activity so we have to be mindful on the impact on the site. Zero tolerance on poor behaviour which should result in privileges being taken away- sometimes they are, but we are an inclusive and restorative school, as the LA recommend. Less sugary food and snacks given out- breakfast club is moving inline with national school food standards, we will look into food rewards but will need parent support to enforce any changes.
What could we do better? 2. Broader curriculum- this has been reviewed in 2019 and will continue to be updated, see website for details. Communicate issues earlier than parents evenings- this should happen if there is a serious concern for staff. More explanation of how we can help children at home- add this to website and organise parents events on this. More photos of activities on the website- GDPR issue, must have parents understanding and permission to share images, no control over this if images are copied. Negative comments from sports coaches should be dealt with- if we know about them, they are. More maths development- focus for school development in 19/20. Breakfast club open at 7:30am- staff would have to be paid more and want to do it! Can pupils play on the field when it is dry- we will try to sort this. More pupil voice- on the school development plan for 19/20. More thought about placing pupils in next year’s class- we try very hard to get this right. Usually, any preconceptions are quickly resolved. Extra classes after school- staff would have to want to do it and there would have to be a cost, school budget is not really for this. Invest in a wider range of reading books- FOB is looking into resources for this in 19/20. Could there be an Art Club- art activities will be part of The Hub provision. Clubs only function if the staff with the correct skills set and desire to run the club are available. Can Robin Wood cost go down- we already go at one of the cheaper times of the year. Jan/Feb is cheapest but there are issues around the weather. Codes for educational acronyms e.g. KS1- we will put a list on the website this term. More homework- we feel that broadly, homework is enough, research about the benefits of homework are very mixed for children at an early age.
