End-of-term review: Course goals Analyze receiver needs and business situations to choose effective message channels Persuasively articulate and support a position Select, organize, and present information to achieve objectives Understand uses and limits of technology Critically evaluate your own and others’ writing Develop a repertoire of strategies that facilitate communication

Final self-assessment Pre-writing: Review the documents from this semester and from your portfolio from last year Think about your initial goals and your mid-term goals for business communication What to write: Assess where you are in terms of achieving those goals or any new ones you’ve developed Identify one or two key communication goals for your career that you think you can achieve within five years

Final “housekeeping” details Grades will be posted on CourseTools by 5 p.m. December 19 Final materials will be put in your mail folders by December 22 My U-M e-mail will remain the same (aandrea@umich.edu)

Why your final grade might be a surprise The final proposal and presentation is worth 60 points The section assignment is worth 30 points That’s 90 out of 340 points (over 25%) that you do not yet know Also, you do not know how anyone else will do on these things

Final thoughts Each of you should now: Be aware of the complexity of business communication Have the tools to analyze a situation and audience quickly and accurately Recognize that you have choices in how you communicate in any situation Understand the benefits and risks of several different choices for any situation Realize that how you communicate influences how others perceive you
