Night Chapter 4

With a partner: In chapter three, Elie tells us how he changed after his first night in camp, and in chapter four he shows us evidence of his change. Write down 3 quotations that show Elie has changed. For each quotation, explain how it shows Elie has changed.

With a different partner: Despite everything, where do you see examples of people helping each other? Write down 2 quotations, and explain what they reveal about human nature. What keeps people going?

On your own: Reread the description of the first hanging on pages 61-63. Reread the description of the hanging of the pipel on pages 63-65. How are the two hangings different? What happens to Elie after he witnesses the pipel’s hanging?
