Update on the work of Regional Disaster Management Committee (July 2012-March 2013)

Update on Road Map Implementation Mapping for Contingency Plans and SoP under way. (July ‘13 ToT for CP in Indonesia (AP Zone): some NS from SEA to participate) Consolidation of resources for DR, Recovery and DRR: online library created to ensure institutional memory – RDMC members provided inputs: (https://sites.google.com/site/drrtoolsinsoutheastasia/) RDMC members regularly updated DMIS School based DRR mapping ongoing DRR mapping almost completed in SEA

Update on Road Map Implementation continued.. Formation of task force for NDRT standardization and relevant SoP: No task force created as yet. LRC and CRC response preparedness seminars conducted, reviewing existing tools Disaster Response Training held for SRC, RDRT to undergo review (no deployments in 2012) RDMC Terms of References revised through e- consultation/discussion

Update on Road Map Implementation continued.. Integrated Planning (Health/DM/OD): 9 day DRR Field Session in Myanmar resulted in an integrated community based risk reduction plan, an example of good community driven/owned initiative that responds to their needs cross sectorally Thematic Seminars on Integration: Timor Leste -CVTL, Cambodia -CRC and Myanmar-MRC brought together relevant departments (Health/DM/OD) to explore opportunities for better integration in planning and implementation of community based programmes Thematic Seminar on Integration in Lao PDR planned for April 2013

Update on Road Map Implementation Regional Cooperation Network (supported by SEARD-CSRU) ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Disaster Relief Exercise (DiREx) 2013 Initial Planning Conference (IPC) – Thai RC to participate in May 2013 exercise (evacuation camp running) 5th Asian Ministerial Conference Participation of 6 NSs from SEA (VNRC, TRC, LRC, PMI, MRC, CRC) Mekong River Basin Workshop: 4 NSs (DM & Health Directors), government representatives (NDMA/DDPM), ADPC, SEARD (34 participants) – to discuss sub-regional cooperation in MRB

Update on Road Map Implementation Regional Cooperation Network (supported by SEARD-CSRU) continued.. South - East Asia Civil Society Consultation on ASEAN AADMER Engagement and Partnership – RDMC Chair and Philippines RC participated (Jan 2013, Bangkok) Aid International Development Forum (AIDF) – Chair RDMC participated as speaker (Jan 2013, Bangkok) Regional Coordination Committee-RCC (27 countries of Asia) Meeting in Mongolia (March 2013) – Through SEARD – the Chair of RDMC invited to represent RDMC

Challenges and Opportunities… Opportunity for RDMC members to provide more information about their efforts to implement the Road Map at their respective National Level as well as information /expertise exchange/sharing between NS related to implementation of the Road Map Currently only one mode of communication(email): CSRU to RDMC (with few rare exceptions including regular contacts with RDMC Chair)

Challenges and Opportunities… continued.. More initiative/proactiveness by/for RDMC members is encouraged Better reporting back (to RDMC members and leadership) Lack of feedback on Sub-Group initiatives undertaken/led by their Chairs

Building Safer and more Resilient Communities in SEA Progress A cross-departmental (Health, DM & OD) and branch integration seminar was carried out and its Plan of Action is expected to take a small- scale demonstration of DRR measures in One community in Svay Rieng Branch Red Cross; A similar seminar on Response Preparedness was well performed and a tentative Plan of Action has been defined.

Building Safer and more Resilient Communities in SEA Looking ahead A small-scale demonstration of DRR measures will be rolled out in One community in Svay Rieng Branch Red Cross; Challenges & Constraints Business of the CRC and Cambodian people from May to July 2013 (National events) Seasonal effect to the DRR measures.
