Policy for Grades & Absences Thank you for your assistance in making this a stellar year! Dear Parent, Policy for Grades & Absences Remind your child to ask questions. It is my pleasure to meet you and my passion to teach and inspire your child this year. Sixth grade is an exciting and challenging time for students as they make their way, or transition from elementary school. Throughout the year, we will develop learning habits, and practice strategies to embrace the new level, and explore the power of language through reading and writing and thinking exercises. Please keep in mind that your child is part of the large beating heart in my classroom, and if we work together, as a team, all the children will prosper. If I contact you, I am calling to understand the bigger picture before I share the behavior witnessed in the classroom. I ask you to do the same. Please inquire into the situation before pointing fingers at who or what might be the cause. Hormones are racing at this age, and we need to make certain that these young adults are supported by cooperative leaders. Mrs. Lawrence Students will be updated weekly about assignments. Please check grades regularly, and feel free to ask me any questions that you might have about a particular grade. For every day of an excused absence, students have a day to make-up an assignment. All make-up work will be placed in the absent folder, or please see teacher. It is your responsibility to ask a classmate, or teacher for help, and/or meet to make-up any class work. Study Time __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Most work will be completed in class if students use their time wisely. The exception to this could be projects. __________________________________ BYOD: Technology Usage Electronic devices should be kept in students’ backpacks, or the assigned classroom location. Devices should not be out during this class, unless otherwise instructed by the teacher, or with permission. Please review the “Classroom Cell Phone Acceptable Use Policy” for more information. Possible outcomes to Misuse: Student will turn the phone into the teacher until the end of class, until the end of the day, or parent will have to pick up the device from the main office. *Remember students are reachable via the school’s main number, 305-661-3481. *Important Student Handbook Policy In some instances, if students do not complete work in the time allotted, it will be assigned as homework so students can adhere to the determined deadlines. There will be occasional online assignments to complete. Students may schedule time at a school lab if a home computer is unavailable. A hall pass will not be administered and last 10 mins of each period. during the first
