Examples from Awards A Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number (https://www.cfda.gov/) is a number assigned in the awarding document to most grants and cooperative agreements funded by the Federal government. Each program is assigned a unique number (XX.XXX). The first two digits represent the agency; a decimal point in between; followed by three digits representing the program. You may also see this number if your PI is receiving a Sub-Award from another institution and the Prime award is from the Federal government.
Why is the cfda number important? Per the Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200.202, the Federal awarding agency must notify the public of Federal programs using the authorized CFDA number.
