Hilltop Parent Information Evening Tuesday 4th June 2019

Travel Arrangements Children should arrive at the main Cambridge station between 8am and 8:30am on Wednesday 10th July. We aim to return to Cambridge at 4pm on Friday 12th July. Children MUST BE dropped off on Wednesday 10th and collected on Friday 12th by an adult. We will be going by train from Cambridge to Norwich, then a coach will take us to Sheringham. Children will need a packed lunch on the Wednesday – all other food will be catered for.

Kit List – this list will be provided. Children will need a sleeping bag. They will also need 2 pairs of shoes: an indoor pair (could be slippers) and an outdoor pair suitable for the activities. Sweets are allowed but no additional snacks in luggage. Sweets are for the train journey only and will be taken in at Hilltop and returned after. Children must be able to carry all that they bring – no enormous suitcases please! No electronic devices should be brought on the trip. They may bring a maximum of £5. Children can bring reading books or games but they must be able to carry it all! Children can bring a swimming kit as there may be an opportunity to use the site’s swimming pool.

Medical Please complete the form and return it to your child’s class teacher. Any medication needs to be given to Ms White at the station in a labelled plastic bag with your child’s name and clear dosage instructions. Children’s dietary requirements must also be indicated on the form so that these can be catered for by the Hilltop staff.

Groupings and Accommodation Children will communciate who they would particularly like to spend time with and their wishes will be taken into account. Children will have a train partner. They will be put into activity groups and dorm groups. The groups may be a mixture of children from Fawcett and Trumpington Meadows. Most of the rooms have en suite bathrooms. Each block is supervised by a school adult.

Activities Children will be in activity groups and will complete a carousel of activities during the trip. This will include a tree top trail, zip wire, climbing wall, power fan, archery, agility and assault courses. There will be an evening activity each day: one of these will, weather permitting, be a walk into Sheringham to have an ice cream! Children will have a chance to use the Hilltop swimming pool.

Behaviour The highest standards for behaviour will be expected at all times whilst on the residential. All children, and an adult, will sign a behaviour contract agreeing to some key principles ( see next slide.) Should any child fail to follow these expectations, or the expectations of the Hilltop staff, they may be sent home before the end of the residential.

Behaviour Contract Hilltop Behaviour Contract I will observe and respect the following rules at all times: I will treat the centre with respect, particularly the woodland, grass and planted areas. I will use the bins provided at all times. I will treat everyone with respect, regardless of race, religion, gender or special educational needs. I will not use the activity areas or equipment unless supervised by Hilltop instructors. During activity sessions I will listen to the Hilltop instructors and follow the instructions in order to ensure everyone’s’ safety. I will keep the dormitories and communal areas clean and tidy at all times. I will arrive promptly for meals and activity sessions. I will return to my dormitory at the agreed time and keep noise to a minimum. I will not keep food in my dormitory. I will stay in my dormitory after lights out, except in an emergency, and I will not disturb anyone else during the night. I understand that normal school rules apply for the duration of the trip. I will not bring any electronic or valuable items on this trip I understand that if I do not follow this code of conduct it may be necessary for me to return home before this trip ends. This is at the discretion of the school or Hilltop staff.   Child signature: ______________________________________________ Adult signature: ____________________________________________

Any further questions? Should you have any concerns before the residential, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
