SCTP in SDP draft-loreto-mmusic-sctp-sdp-07 Salvatore Loreto Prague, Czech Republic Friday, April 1, 2011

Overview how to express, in SDP, media transport over SCTP DTLS over SCTP (e.g. for communications privacy)

Clarification 1 With SCTP its possible to convey multiple streams over the same connection. So in principle one could use a single SCTP association for several media streams. The intent of this draft is for: only a single media stream using the connection

Suggestion: use stream 0 for everything Open issue 1 Is it necessary to know which stream identifier to use for the media stream? convey the stream id in the SDP Define a well-known id Suggestion: use stream 0 for everything

Open issue 2: Multihoming An SCTP endpoint can be Multihomed. The SCTP endpoints MAY choose to use/adv the main address all the time (e.g., in the ‘c’ line) and to send a re-INVITE every time they change that Address. However not using non-primary paths for retransmission means not to utilize the multi-homing feature of SCTP for resilience.

Open issue 2: Multihoming How to express non-primary paths in SDP: reuse ICE attributes changing their semantics the candidate line has well-defined semantics and we should probably not overload them with new meanings ICE uses the re-INVITE mechanism…

Open issue 3: NAT TBD: How to use Interactive Connectivity Establishment (ICE) to establish SCTP streams. …in a different drat? do we want to include in SDP the ability to signal SCTP- over-UDP ? Do we want ICE to only use SCTP over IP candidates, or we ant ICE to use SCTP over UDP candidates as well?
