Apoptosis: Opening PANdora's BoX Christoph Peter, Sebastian Wesselborg, Kirsten Lauber  Current Biology  Volume 20, Issue 21, Pages R940-R942 (November 2010) DOI: 10.1016/j.cub.2010.09.066 Copyright © 2010 Elsevier Ltd Terms and Conditions

Figure 1 Cleavage and opening of pannexin 1 (Panx1) contributes to nucleotide release during apoptosis. Panx1 has four transmembrane domains, intracellular amino (N) and carboxyl (C) termini, and two extracellular loops. The putative caspase-3/7 (Casp-3/7) cleavage site is depicted by the scissors. Upon caspase-mediated cleavage Panx1 channels open and contribute to nucleotide release, dye uptake and voltage-gated currents during apoptosis.
