Panx1 has four transmembrane domains, intracellular amino (N) and carboxyl (C) termini, and two extracellular loops. The putative caspase-3/7 (Casp-3/7) cleavage site is depicted by the scissors. Upon caspase-mediated cleavage Panx1 channels open and contribute to nucleotide release, dye uptake and voltage-gated currents during apoptosis.
