Purpose of Graduate Education The primary purpose of graduate education at The University of Texas at Tyler is to instill in each student an understanding of and capacity for scholarship, independent judgement, academic rigor, and intellectual and academic honesty. Differences Between Undergraduate Education and Graduate Education Scholastic loads Undergraduate typically up to 18 semester credit hours Graduate typically no more than 12 semester credit hours Grading System Undergraduate – minimum acceptable grade point average = 2.0 (C) Graduate – minimum acceptable grade point average = 3.0 (B) *In graduate studies, a grade of “C” is considered poor An Introduction to Graduate School October 5, 2019

Scholastic Dishonesty “Scholastic dishonesty” includes, but is not limited to cheating, plagiarism, collusion, falsifying academic records, and any act designed to give unfair academic advantage to a student or an attempt to commit such an act.
