5 Principles of Leadership Influence Leadership is influence Everything rises and falls on leadership Highest form of leadership is self-leadership Greatest purpose of leadership is to add value to others Heart of leadership is service

WHO DO YOU INFLUENCE?

Leadership is Influence. Nothing More, Nothing Less. – John C Maxwell

INFLUENCE IS NOT ABOUT POSITION.

Leadership is about people, not about position.

METHODS OF INFLUENCE From worst to best FORCE: There is no choice in the decision. INTIMIDATION: “My way or the highway.” MANIPULATION: There’s a winner and a loser. POSITIONAL: We follow because we have to. EXCHANGE: We both win something. METHODS OF INFLUENCE Most common is the "my way or the highway" philosophy

INTIMIDATION: “My way or the highway!” Most common is the "my way or the highway" philosophy

Intimidation leads to disengagement. People are disengaged because of the "my way or the highway" mentality If you want to engage your people, how you lead will determine how far, and how long you will lead  Intimidation leads to disengagement.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO INFLUENCE? Why you do something will ultimately determine what your level of influence with others is. Right motives are crucial to people because leadership functions on the basis of trust. Without trust, influence is nothing more than coercion and manipulation.

Without trust, influence is nothing more than coercion and manipulation.

–Stephen M. Covey, “Speed of Trust” “Trust, and the speed at which it is established with clients, and employees, is the essential ingredient for any high- performance, successful organization.” –Stephen M. Covey, “Speed of Trust”

PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW Do you care about me? Can you help me? Can I trust you? PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW

HOW TO INCREASE YOUR INFLUENCE Influence comes from adding value to others.  HOW TO INCREASE YOUR INFLUENCE

HOW TO INCREASE YOUR INFLUENCE When we added value to ourselves, we become more valuable to others. HOW TO INCREASE YOUR INFLUENCE

REFLECTION

REFLECTION What went right? What went wrong? What can I do differently? REFLECTION

Lead yourself better and others will follow.

Five Levels of Leadership

Mastering your ability to positively influence others is the key to personal and professional growth.

How are you growing? Are you a better version of yourself today vs 1yr ago? On what level of leadership are you operating? Do you know how your personality type affects your leadership? Do you have a structured process of using leadership and personal development tools for you and your team? Do you have a leadership coach? Would you like more information?

THANK YOU for making your professional growth a priority. Ask me about additional coaching and training.
