Themes, Styles, & Graphics

EASY FORMATTING Besides cut and paste text can be: DRAGGED and DROPPED to other locations Vertically alignment centers text between TOP and BOTTOM margins Steps to center text vertically on the page PAGE LAYOUT TAB > PAGE SETUP GROUP > MORE BUTTON The four choices for vertical alignment CENTER TOP BOTTOM JUSTIFY

STYLES & THEMES Styles are located on the HOMES TAB > STYLES GROUP Themes is a set of unified formats for FONTS COLORS GRAPHICS Themes can be found on the PAGE LAYOUT TAB > THEMES GROUP Themes can only be applied if a STYLE has been added to the text Items in the Themes group? THEMES COLOR EFFECTS

GRAPHICS GRAPHICS can add interest to a document or reinforce your message. Types of graphics include CLIP ART PHOTOS SHAPES WORD ART TEXT WRAPPING changes the way text wraps around a graphic. SQUARE or TIGHT are the most commonly used types of text wrapping.

GRAPHICS Images can be RESIZED by clicking on the image and then dragging the corner sizing handle. It is important to always resize an image from the corner, rather than the top or bottom SO THE IMAGE DOESN’T GET DISTORTED The PICTURE STYLES gallery shows the various styles you can apply to the selected image The PICTURE TOOL TAB Is only available when the graphic is selected.

GRAPHICS A TEXT BOX is similar to an image, it lets you position text anywhere on the page WORD ART changes text into a graphic When inserting a drawing shape the cursor will change to: CROSS HAIRS + To draw a shape to a desired size, click the left mouse button and DRAG cross hairs at an angle or CLICK ONCE to insert a standard-sized shape (approximately one inch).

GOOD THINGS TO KNOW & THINGS I ALREADY KNOW Word is a WORD PROCESSING software, used to type letters, reports, and other documents The SHOW/HIDE button shows the formatting in the document, specifically the line spacing and tabs. Formatting features in the font group include FONT FACE (Name of font) FONT SIZE UNDERLINE ITALICS BOLD CHANGE CASE FONT COLOR

GOOD THINGS TO KNOW & THINGS I ALREADY KNOW The PRINT PREVIEW command enables you to look at a document as it will appear when printed. PORTRAIT documents are longer than they are wide LANDSCAPE documents are wider than they are long You can set tabs by using the TAB BOX located to the left of the ruler bar.

Letters & Memos Letters can be formatted as BLOCK or MODIFIED BLOCK style. In a block style letter each line begins at the LEFT margin In a MODIFIED BLOCK letter the DATE and SIGNATURE BLOCK are tabbed over to the CENTER position or the 3.0” mark on the ruler bar. Open punctuation has NO punctuation after the salutation or the complimentary close. A mixed punctuation letter has a COLON after the salutation and a COMMA after the complimentary close. A MEMO is a document typically used for communication within a company

Picture Tool Tab 1 6 10 4 2 9 11 7 3 8 5 PICTURE TOOLS tab appears when a graphic has been inserted RECOLOR  enables you to apply a color wash to your picture RESET PICTURE   Reverses any changes you've made to the original photo and returns it to its original size, shape, and coloring. CHANGE PICTURE   Allows you to replace an image with a new one, while still retaining the formatting you applied to it. PICTURE STYLE GALLERY shows the various styles you can apply to the selected image. PICTURE SHAPE Allows you to apply a shape to the picture so that the image appears within the body of the shape. PICTURE BORDER Allows you to apply a border around an image PICTURE EFFECTS Are special formats you can apply to the selected picture. TEXT WRAPPING Changes the way text wraps around the picture CROP Allows you to remove an unwanted part of the image SIZE BOX allows you to resize an image to a precise measurement.
