News from Room 211 Our Month What’s Coming Up Notices Mrs. Leary Month Ending May 31, 2019 Our Month What’s Coming Up May was a busy month in Room 211! Not only did we have MCAS testing, we hosted a biography wax museum for the school, and we prepared for author’s breakfast! Prior to MCAS, we completed unit 5 in math. The assessment was given in early May. We also completed the end of year math assessment. In Social Studies we learned about the major battles of the Revolutionary War. We performed readers’ theater about the Battle of Yorktown. The Organism Growth and Survival unit was the focus in science. Our tadpoles arrived, and we have been observing them grow and change. We also planted grass to see if sunlight is needed for seed growth. We also shared our wild weather presentations. At the beginning of the month, we continued to learn about different types of poetic devices and wrote a biography poem. Toward the end of the month, we worked in small teams to write persuasive pieces about plastics. This was inspired by our Earth Day learning. In reading, most students completed reading “The Secret Soldier,” a biography about Deborah Sampson. Math – We will correct the end-of-year test in early June. For the remainder of the year, we will review past concepts and work on some projects. Science – We’ll watch our tadpoles change into toads. We will also examine what happens when food chains or habitats are disrupted. Social Studies – We’ll learn about the three branches of government and the Constitution. We will also be taking a Sharon history tour to learn about the town’s colonial and Revolutionary War roots. ELA – In reading, we will complete our last unit – mysteries. We’ll also complete work for our Author’s Breakfast. Notices Thank you to the boys and girls of Room 211 for working so hard on the recent MCAS testing. Permission slips for the history tour field trip have been sent home and are due back to school. There was an error on the permission slip – chaperones are not needed. Thank you. Don’t forget, Room 211’s Author’s Breakfast will be held on Tuesday, June 11th, from 9 – 9:45 in Room 211. Thank you for your support regarding the Biography Wax Museum. Third grade raised almost $500 for the three charities – Sharon Animal Shelter, water.org, and The Orphan Project. Biography Wax Museum Teamwork Mrs. Leary
