Resilience and Determination Mr Little – July 2019

What makes a good learner? Smart? Polite? Supportive? Good behaviour? Listens? Resilience? Determination?

What is resilience? What is determination? “The ability to recover quickly from difficulties… toughness” “Take your headphones out, thankyou” What is determination? “Those who succeed because of sheer grit and determination” “Passing your GCSE exam after failing your mock”

Resilience in school How can you/we build resilience in school? Knowing what distracts you from learning and settling quickly after a disruption. Noticing the areas of your learning you are good at and using them. Not being put off by difficulties and finding ways to overcome them. Knowing what it is like to be engrossed in a task, not knowing that time is passing.

Resilience in school #TeamTSLA All that we ask is that you try your best and: Accept the help on offer but use it wisely and only when you need to. Talk to someone if you need support. Ask questions in class before you feel the need to leave the room, school is meant to be challenging or else we would not need to attend. Everyone learns something new every single day, please do not feel silly if you find something hard or do not know the answer!! #TeamTSLA

You are now the oldest group in school. LEAD BY EXAMPLE!! Getting it right at TSLA is very easy… we ask little of students but will give you all we can “But it is also down to you to meet basic expectations around your own behaviour choices”. You are now the oldest group in school. LEAD BY EXAMPLE!!
