What is College Credit Plus (CCP)? CCP is an initiative by the Ohio Department of Education to allow students to attain college credit while in middle and/or high school Tuition Free for students Offered on High School Campus or at Ohio Public and Private Institutions High School Based CCP Course At the home high school with approved Harvey High School Teacher/ Adjunct Professor College Based CCP Course At the college/ university with College Professor

What is CCP for PCLS students? Prepares students for both Post-Secondary education and careers Increases access to a broad range of rigorous content Provides cost savings to parents/families for college education and/or career enhancements Only 1 in 4 students who enter college complete a bachelor’s degree in 4 years. (IPEDS database, 2008)

Offer a broad range of college level classes to provide extended educational opportunities for our students. Additional Ways to Earn College Credit Advanced Placement Classes Students can earn college credit by taking advanced placement classes at their home school and scoring a 3 or above on AP exams may earn college credit Auburn Career Center Some programs offer the opportunity for students to earn college credits.

Criteria for Participation Students must be enrolled in grades 7-12. Parents and students must attend the CCP information night at Harvey. Sign and return the “Intent to Participate Form” and “CCP Check List” by April 1st. File a CCP application with either Lake Erie College or Lakeland Community College. Submit transcript to LEC/ LCC. Register and successfully complete Accuplacer (LCC), ACT or SAT. You must meet the state’s college readiness standard in English. Parents and Students must attend a CCP registration/information session at LEC/ LCC.

What Are My Academic and Social Responsibilities? Expected to follow the rules and regulations set by the college/university including adherence to their grading policies. Once enrolled, you are eligible to receive advising from campus-based support services of that institution. Expected to follow the rules and regulations set for high school students detailed in the student handbook. Continued access to your school counselor and all other resources available to high school students. Participation in College Credit Plus does not guarantee your admission to college after high school. You should follow the regular undergraduate application process for whatever college you plan to attend after high school.

Weighting of Grades in CCP State law requires all advanced standing courses (AP, CCP) to be weighted in core classes the same regardless of where the student takes the course. Harvey Honors Grading Scale A = 5.0 B = 4.0 C = 3.0 D = 2.0 F = 0.0 For Example: Harvey offers Advanced Placement courses in Social Studies. This means that all CCP Social Studies courses will be weighted on the Harvey Honors Grading Scale. *Humanities, Computers

Possible Concerns Transportation Calendar Fees Student/ Parent or Guardian is responsible Calendar Vacation days at the home school and CCP school may not coincide Attendance is the student’s responsibility Fees Financial obligations will become the parent/student responsibility if: Late withdrawal from the class Student does not receive a passing grade

Class Selection EXAMPLE: 4 Math courses need for graduation including a Algebra II. Student must FIRST take classes toward their graduation requirements before they can take classes that are FIRST 15 Rule….

Possible Concerns (cont.) Qualifying for Graduation A failure to successfully complete a CCP course may result in delay of graduation. High School Extra-Curricular Activities Schedules may not align to allow participation in all activities Social Aspect High school/ middle school student will face new challenges emotionally and socially. Professors will not change course content based on CCP student enrollment.

Possible Concerns (cont.) Parent Access and FERPA-CCP Students are treated as adults and own their education records once they set foot on a college campus. No parent access to whatever online college grade books are used. Middle School Schedule Does not allow for students to attend classes during the regular school day Dual credit does not apply to middle school courses Middle school students will have to attend classes during weekends, evenings or Summer sessions.

How Does College Credit Plus Impact Athletic Eligibility? If you are a student athlete, you must remain eligible in accordance with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) bylaws. To be athletically eligible, students must be passing five, one credit courses or the equivalent per grading period with the high school and college courses combined. Most College Credit Plus courses taken during a semester will equal one Carnegie unit, allowing student to earn more than the required five for athletic eligibility. Most 3 credit semester courses count as a 2 credit high school course. (For eligibility purposes ONLY) You will need to check with your guidance counselor to ensure that the coursework you are taking is compliant with OSHAA.

Summer CCP CCP courses will be offered in the summer at no charge to the student. Summer CCP courses are included in the 30 credit hours of the following school year. Credit accumulation goes Summer, Fall, Spring. Students should not take more than 30 credit hours a year. Remedial courses will not be paid for by the district under CCP Remedial courses can only be taken during the summer sessions.

Taking the Accuplacer Exam Placement exam created by College Board (SAT) Approximately 1 – 1 ½ hours to complete (Not timed) Bring photo ID ONLY. No outside calculators will be permitted, one will be provided as part of the exam. Registration is required at www.lakelandcc.edu/CCP Students have 3 attempts to meet the thresholds.
