Affirmative Action Defined: Proactive steps to ensure that groups of people who have been previously excluded are provided with an equal opportunity to obtain employment, education, economic and other benefits.

Affirmative Action Office Ensure adherence to local, state and federal laws and University policy related to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Affirmative Action (AA). Develop and implement the University’s Affirmative Action Plan and monitor hiring/employment practices: Analyze data on hiring, promotion, salary and termination. Address practices which result in the exclusion of underrepresented individuals and groups. Provide EEO and AA guidance to HR and Search Committees. Develop and conduct education/training for University employees to prevent discrimination and harassment in the workplace and to promote an environment of inclusion, equity, respect, and responsibility. Provide support and assessment of climate issues and recruitment and retention strategies. Investigate all allegations of discrimination and sexual misconduct by University employees.
