Schools Clean Air Network Communicating Air Quality A review of Oxford City Council’s Air Quality communication projects Schools Clean Air Network June 20th 2019 - 4.30 – 6pm Oxfordshire County Council - County Hall (Oxford)

STOP Project Project limitations Launched in 2017 to six schools in Oxford Installation of Real-time NO2 and PM10 air quality monitors Delivery of air quality presentations with air quality education contents Project limitations Only 6 Air Quality sensors Not enough to allow project to be adopted by all schools in Oxford What to do next?  To increase awareness and understanding of air pollution issues amongst pupils, parents, teachers and school governors  To empower the entire school community to adopt less polluting behaviours such as walking to school – and to encourage others to do the same  To reduce car idling activities around sensitive areas  To increase cycling; and the use of public transport.

STOP Project STOP has been awarded Air Quality Communications Initiative of the Year in the 2018 National Air Quality Awards.

Oxford’s Anti Idling Campaign Anti-Idling campaigns delivered at: Windmill Primary School St Gregory the Great Wolvercote Primary School Clean air day 2018: St Gilles and St Clements Clean air day 2019: City Centre The campaign will be targeted at schools primarily with the aim of educating children and parents about the dangers of air pollution and advise them to turn their engines off when stationary and adopting sustainable travel behaviours including walking, cycling and public transport.
