Course Structure: The programme consists of 7 Modules. Once the Overview Module is completed, the other modules are released. The modules vary in length, in general they are 6 – 10 hours long. Each module is stand alone and individually certifiable.

A school can choose to deliver one or more modules. Completing 5 modules (Overview Module + 4 others) AND Organising GAA Super Games / GoGames / Fun & Run or any event linked to any module. => GAA Future Leaders Award

GAA Future Leaders Modules Future Leaders Event Management & Sports Administration Module Future Leaders FMS & Coaching of Hurling/Football Module Future Leaders Refereeing Module Future Leaders Sports Journalism Module Future Leaders Performance Analysis Module Future Leaders Nutrition Module Future Leaders Wellbeing Module Pupils will receive an e-Certificate for each completed module.

Each module is translated to Irish, so a school can choose to complete it in either Irish or English.

Overview Module & Updates

Updates to Programme 1) One task per module. 2) Tasks are uploaded directly to schools page in the “School Zone”. 3) Schools must do Overview Module first. 4) To get the overall Future Leaders Award students must; Complete Overview Module + 4 other modules. Organise at least one FL Event Document “My Future Leaders Journey” in their ePortfolio throughout the year.

Activity Task Leadership Activity

Overview Module Activity: - Create a page in your ePortfolio called “My Future Leaders Journey”. Add your first entry / reflection about the programme to your page. Students can add text, audio, photos and video to their pages. In order to receive the overall Future Leaders award, students document their learning and experiences with the various parts of the programme, both modules and events, and share it with their teacher for feedback. They then submit it at the end of the year to their school page.

Overview Module Task: Submit a word document to your school page with a short paragraph discussing the modules you will cover this year and the events you would like to organise. The uploading of this task will release the rest of the modules.

Event Management & Sports Administration Updates @gaafutureleader gaafutureleader

Gives the students ideas to practically apply their learning Event Management & Sports Administration Modules have been merged. Much more focus on using what the students are learning and getting them active. More events are recognised as “GAA Future Leaders Events”. Gives the students ideas to practically apply their learning Critical module if students are to successfully run events in their school

Practical Application of Programme

A school can choose to deliver one or more modules. 4 modules + GAA Super Games Centre / GoGames / Fun & Run or any event linked to any module + My Future Leaders Journey => GAA Future Leaders Award

For real learning to take place, it is important for you to put your newly acquired skills and knowledge from each of the modules into practice. We would encourage you to allow your students organise as many events as possible throughout the year.

On-Field Events

- Super Games Centres / Blitzes are ran by TYs for 1st & 2nd years - Go Games Blitzes and Fun & Run are ran by TYs for primary school pupils.

Off-Field Events / Healthy Clubs

You will now see a list of GAA Healthy Clubs events, students can run any of these types of events in your school to earn their Future Leaders Award.

 

Students can organise “Healthy Eating Initiatives” in the school with help from the Nutrition Module and the “Recipes for Success” book.

Students can run any event linked to the GAA Healthy Clubs Initiative to qualify for the GAA Future Leaders Award.

Students can run any event linked to any of the modules On – Field Events Off – Field Events Event Module Super Games Event Coaching / Refereeing / P.A. / Event Management 5 km run / Walk / Colour Runs etc. Wellbeing / Event Management Go Games Blitz Healthy eating initiatives Fun & Run Organising guest speakers / workshops for various topics relating to programme Handball Event Fun Days Rounders Blitz Wellbeing initiatives 7 – a – sides etc. Other Any event linked to any module Wall ball event Other GAA event Coaching / Refereeing / P.A. / Event Management

Allow students as many opportunities as possible to put their learning into practice

Future Leaders Committee

It’s important to form a committee or committees to assign everyone roles and responsibilities when organising events. It’s also important to hold pre-event planning meetings and post event evaluation meetings so students learn from the process.

My Future Leaders Journey

Students document their learning throughout the year by creating a page in their ePortfolio called; “My Future Leaders Journey”. They can upload the following; Pictures Videos (of what they are doing & of themselves speaking about their experiences) Voice recordings Note taking Extending Learning (after completing a topic, they may find an interesting article or video online that relates to the topic and add this to their page.

They share the page with their teacher who gives them feedback throughout the year. It is important that teachers give feedback to the students in the comment section of the page.

Webinars

There will be live webinars throughout the year on the modules and the IT aspect of the programme. The link to these webinars will be available in the Teacher Zone in the webinar folder and will be emailed to teachers enrolled on the Teacher Zone. They will also be available to watch throughout the year by clicking on the link in the Teacher Zone.

Future Leaders Newsletter

We will circulate an online Future Leaders Newsletter a number of times during the school year. In the newsletter there will be; Videos Links – to Webinars & programme related pages. School Corner – Reports, videos and photos of what’s happening & where. If you want your school included here link in with us through our social media pages. Updates to modules Upcoming events – There will be opportunities throughout the to link your school in with county and provincial GAA staff to help in the running of events. Competition Winners at the Leinster Football Final 2018 in Croke Park

Competitions: Almost every task is linked to a competition. To enter a competition, the teacher chooses the best task submitted and forwards that task to us by email. Each school is entitled to one entry to each competition. The email address and all other information will be in the teachers Future Leaders newsletter.
