College of Liberal Arts Is UNDECIDED Right for You? In the College of Liberal Arts, Undecided stands for a student on the path to a new major. We work with two types of Undecided students in the College of Liberal Arts: Those who are exploring different majors in Liberal Arts. Those who want to study a major in another college but they need some time to take courses or improve grades.

College of Liberal Arts If You Know Which Major You Want… Our Undecided Advisors can help you coordinate with the major advisors to help you take the classes and earn the grades you need to CODO to your college of choice. You’ll get your PIN from your Liberal Arts Undecided Advisor. You’ll get course recommendations from the major advisor in the college where you’re headed. You’ll work with both advisors to make sure you understand the CODO requirements and stay on track to transfer to your major of choice. Undecided students bound for another college have THREE SEMESTERS to meet the CODO requirements for their preferred major. If 3 semesters pass and you aren’t able to meet the CODO requirements, we’ll make sure you’ve got a parallel plan in place so your graduation isn’t severely delayed.

Which means most of our majors have plenty of room in their degree plans for other studies. What’s the CLA Core look like? The Liberal Arts Core can be divided up into three categories: Written and Oral Communication You’ll need to take one writing course and one course in speech. Math and Science You’ll need to take one math course and one course in statistics. You’ll also need to take two science courses. Humanities The Humanities requirements draw from courses in the pillars of civilization, culture studies, history and political studies, social sciences, and foreign language.

College of Liberal Arts Other Languages A Liberal Arts degree requires students to complete 4 semesters’ worth of study in a language other than English. If you studied a language in high school for at least two years and you’d like to continue in that language at Purdue, talk to your advisor about placement.

College of Liberal Arts Diversify Your Learning Resume In the College of Liberal Arts, we understand how important it is that you diversify your education and differentiate yourself on the job market after graduation. MINOR CLA CORE MAJOR Most Liberal Arts majors have room in their degree plans for a minor (or even two). Minors allow you to study in fields that inform your major, add perspective to your experience, and help you stand out when you’re launching your career.

As a student in Liberal Arts, you have access to two full-time College of Liberal Arts But there’s more to a bachelor’s degree than what happens in the classroom… Because Liberal Arts is the college of cultural studies, our degrees fit perfectly with Study Abroad. As a student in Liberal Arts, you have access to two full-time Study Abroad advisors, who work exclusively with Liberal Arts students or programs. In nearly all cases, coursework at your Study Abroad institution is pre-approved so you know how your international classes will apply to your degree at Purdue. Thanks to the flexibility of CLA majors, many students find room to enjoy semester-long Study Abroad experiences.

So, what’s next? A few points to remember as you begin your experience within the College of Liberal Arts… If you have any transfer credit, AP, Dual Enrollment, or any special credits like band or military, make sure you mention that to your advisor. You’ll also need to complete at least 32 credits at the 300-level or higher. And you’ll need to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 (though some programs require a higher overall GPA).

College of Liberal Arts To CODO into the College of Liberal Arts, just complete the following quick steps: 1. Read through the College of Liberal Arts CODO Introduction. 2. Fill out the New Liberal Arts Student Survey, which your advisor uses as a brief introduction to you and your interests. 3. Meet with your current Major Advisor submit a Major Change request. Students must complete the New Liberal Arts Student Survey before their CODO will be processed.
