How to Make a Great Poster Prepared by Dr. Sandra L Cruz Pol Electrical & Computer Engineering Dept. UPRM

A Great Poster is... readable well organized succinct - grammar,clear,large font well organized spatial organization , flow succinct - To the point 11 seconds!! to grab attention

To begin... Decide what is the main message Measure the space you have Keep short avoid passive, “ing” and “to be” Measure the space you have lay out with pieces of paper Draw a rough sketch of your poster first Keep text to a minimum! Eliminate extraneous material it takes away from central message emphasize Graphics

How to arrange poster elements? People track information in known way* *According to recent studies.

Details: Font choice Arial, Helvetica, Geneva Big enough to see from 4-6 feet away! Highlights with Capitals, italics Don’t use too many fonts on same page Use bullets instead of numbers ALL CAPITALS ARE HARD TO READ AND GIVE IMPRESSION OF YELLING.
