Why do we have a Child Sexual Abuse Prevention program?

Why do we have a Child Sexual Abuse Prevention program? McMartin Pre-School Accusations made in 1983 against family members running pre-school – 7 people, 321 charges involving 48 victims Pre-trial and trial ran six years, from 1984-1990, most expensive criminal trial in history Resulted in no convictions, charges dropped Sex-abuse hysteria, bullying of purported victims Jerry Sandusky Former assistant football coach at Penn State University In Nov 2011, indicted on 52 counts of child molestation Sentenced up to 60 years in prison Abuses may have begun in 1970s, but indicted cases were from 1994-2009 Used a non-profit charity to select and groom victims 3 others convicted due to their part in cover-up Pamela Rogers 27-year-old elementary school PE teacher, Tennessee Sex with a 13-year-old boy (3 month relationship) in 2004 9-months in jail, 7 years probation, register as sex offender Arrested several more times for sending explicit videos/photos and sexual texts to the boy Overall spent about 10 years in jail Why do we have a Child Sexual Abuse Prevention program? Protect children Protect workers and our church Inspire confidence in community Required by our insurance provider Right thing to do Chet Warren Catholic Priest Sex with at least 10 victims from 1957 to 1993 Church settled with his victims for over $1M All victims were girls (81% of Catholic priest victims are boys)
