Presentation transcript:

An experiment in multi-library programming collaboration media& An experiment in multi-library programming collaboration What is media&? Conceptually Media, podcasting, data viz, mixed reality. Providing context for our collections and services through vehicle of Storytelling Audience: Harvard community, broadly speaking, especially our speaker events; workshops mostly geared towards students. Practically A collaboration that in many ways grew out of the Cabot Library renovation. Brought staff from Lamont Multimedia Lab together Workshops that center concrete skill development, improved utilization of existing resources (spaces, equipment, software)

Who we are & what we do: Clayton = Audio, equipment, Premiere, Large format printing Emily = media copyright and fair use, visual storytelling, assignment development Jess = Storytelling through data, data visualization using everything from easy tools (Tableau, Excel) to the more complicated (R/Python) Joanna = media studios, equipment, AR/VR, learning design & technology Susan (no pic) = Cabot + equipment/studios + AR/VR + Premiere Paul = video production cycle, storytelling, instructional design

Why we started media& Why we started media& [focus on collaboration across libraries and departments] One Harvard philosophy of “No wrong door” Emphasizes how a potentially competitive or redundant programming & services instead ends up highlighting the respective strengths of the two locations And practically, already offering some of these workshops to courses and others were interested

The first year Initial offerings Outreach to PBHA, FAS Liaison network, ABCD? Attendees who came, what they needed/wanted (ready, set, improv a new lesson plan?), [Lessons Learned] - how that feedback impacted next semester’s offerings Fortuitous connections? Faculty finding us, requesting workshops & assistance developing assignments Connecting back to Digital Humanities Office Hours and DSSG efforts

Going forward ? Align with other campus initiatives, interested parties, and whatever is happening on campus now.
