Figure 1 Model for TFII-I-Mediated Import of ERK and Control of c-fos Transcription TFII-IΔ initially functions as a shuttle for ERK from the cytoplasm into the nuclear compartment. At the c-fos promoter, TFII-Iβ represses transcription in the basal state (right), whereas TFII-IΔ is thought to support its activation upon growth factor signaling (left). SEF and PEA-15 have been described as factors that sequester ERK in the cytoplasm and control its activity.
