Ecosystems have a lifecycle that usually ends with a natural “disaster” such as a forest fire. The result is a clear fertile area for plants to colonize.

Boreal Climate Usually the climate is warm, around 64 ° to 72 °F In the winter, the temperature is around -14 °F There is heavy snowfall in the months of winter. For six months, the temperature in Taiga is below freezing.

Boreal Plants Not many plants live in the Taiga biome for the cause of harsh weather. Unlike other biomes, Taiga has less diversity in plant life. The most common tree is the conifer trees which is why the Taiga is referred to the coniferous forest.

Boreal Animals There are many animals that seem to adapt well to the biome. Including the lynx, bobcat, and wolverine. They feed on elk, deer, mice, rabbits, and squirrels. Some of the animals change their fur to white in the winter to hide in the snow.

Interesting Facts Another name for the Boreal biome is the Taiga biome. The warmest weather the Taiga has ever had in winter is 30 °F Taiga is the Russian word for “forest” and is the largest land biome in the world. A wildfire in the Taiga is good because it opens new area for more trees to grow.
