Reasoning With God Isaiah 1:18
What does it mean to be unreasonable? Reason: the power of the mind to think, understand, and form judgments by a process of logic. “logical” Consider Is. 1:18... God’s appeal for Israel to stop being unreasonable and think logically.
Are we ever unreasonable with God? Reasoning with God demands several qualities: Freedom from bias – Mark 2:6-11 (Lk 5:21-22); Matt. 21:25 (Mk. 11:31; Lk 20:5); Eccl. 7:7 Knowledge - Job 15:2-3 Humility – Dan. 4:30-32, 34-36; 5: 18-20, 22 Open ears – 1 Sam. 12:7; Job 13:6; Mark 8:17-21; Job 9:14-16 If we desire to reason with God, it is going to require these qualities!
Important Notice: There are some things that are not going to seem logical or reasonable to us that God has required of us. Consider Is. 55:8 and Dt. 29:29. Sometimes we just simply have to trust God. Trusting God is reasonable!
Is God Reasonable? Is. 1:18 – God desires us to reasonably consider things with Him. God wants to reason with us. He is a reasonable God!
Is the Gospel Reasonable? Luke talks about the reasoning ability of the gospel for Jews and Gentiles alike -- Acts 17:2-3; 16-17; 18:4, 19; 19:8-9; 24:25; 26:25 As seen in Acts, for those who know the Scriptures and for those who don’t, the gospel has the ability to reason and persuade. The gospel is reasonable! (2 Cor. 10:4-5)
Are God’s Demands Reasonable? Paul suggested to the Romans that their sacrifice and service to God was reasonable! (Rom. 12:1, NKJV) Paul considered God’s demands of righteousness and self-control to be reasonable and consistent with faith in Christ (Acts 24:24-25). In light of what He’s done for us, His expectations of us are nothing but reasonable!
"Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land; But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword”; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” Isaiah 1:18-20
