Information for Parents and Children . PE PE lessons will be on a Tuesday this term. Please ensure children have their kit at school for these lessons. We want to encourage the children to wear the new school tracksuit in their outside PE lessons. These are available to order through school or Podgers. Pupils must wear the school PE kit (white t-shirt and blue shorts) plus trainers. AUTUMN TERM 2018 Information for Parents and Children Welcome to the first lower junior newsletter of the new year. We hope that you and your child are settling back after such a lovely summer. We look forward to working with you this year. Mrs de Jersey, Miss Murray and Miss Cameron Please, please, please label ALL of your child’s belongings - uniform, lunchboxes, water bottles, pencil cases, coats, hats, etc. If anything is missing, Lost Property is located outside the Staff Room. Do not hesitate to make contact via the school office if there are any queries and we will endeavour to arrange a mutually convenient time to discuss them.

Literacy Topic Religious Education Home Learning Numeracy We have started the term by focusing as a school on ‘The Lost Words.’ This is an island wide literacy initiative and we will be celebrating our learning with other schools. Details to follow. Children will participate in daily word work sessions to develop their phonics and spelling. They will also be part of a Guided Reading group to improve their comprehension, inference and deduction skills. Topic This term our focus is Roald Dahl’s ‘James and the Giant Peach’ which will inspire our writing, science and creative arts. Religious Education You will receive information separately of the RE topics that we will be looking at this term. Home Learning Reading: Please hear your child read aloud regularly for at least 10 minutes a day and ask them questions about the text as it will greatly benefit your child’s reading and improve their comprehension skills. All reading should be recorded in their Home School Record and signed by you. Mathletics: This online resource has recently been updated and children will be bringing home their mathletics passwords shortly. Mathletics activities will be given to consolidate and deepen their learning. Home Learning Challenge: These tasks run in parallel with the topic we are covering in class. The children will be given a challenge sheet with project-based activities to complete by a given date. This learning should be child-led however we encourage parents to work in partnership with their children. Numeracy Following the Guernsey Numeracy Strategy, we will be spending time each week on Number, Problem-Solving and Measures.
