Fig. 1 Most models of biological responses to climate change omit important biological mechanisms. Most models of biological responses to climate change omit important biological mechanisms. Only 23% of reviewed studies (4) included a biological mechanism. Models that included one mechanism usually incorporated others, but no model included all six mechanisms. All models included environmental variation, generally via correlations, but usually did not explicitly incorporate species’ sensitivities to environmental variation at relevant spatiotemporal scales.
