Breast cancer BRCA testing protocol Patient with one or more of: BC <30 years Bilateral BC, both <50 years Triple-negative BC, <50 years BC + OC, any age Other patients will qualify for genetic testing with a referral to clinical genetics, please see the referral criteria overleaf Notes: BC = Breast cancer, OC = Ovarian cancer Actions by approved Cancer Team member: Information sheet (MCG IS1) given to patient. BRCA gene testing discussed. Consent (MCG F1) obtained and filed in the notes. Blood (2 EDTA sample taken at different times ) and request form (MCG F2) sent to lab. More discussion required Refer to Genetics Cancer Team Result sent to the requesting clinicians within 8 weeks NO MUTATION MUTATION UNCLASSIFIED VARIANT Actions by requesting clinician: Result and information sheet (MCG IS2) sent to patient . Referral made to clinical genetics only by request if required, please especially consider referring all patients < 30yrs or those with a complex family history Actions by requesting clinician: Appointment made to give the result to the patient Result and information sheet (MCG IS3) given to patient. Referral faxed to clinical genetics with consent form Actions by requesting clinician: Result and information sheet (MCG IS4) sent to patient.
