What is an employment application? The application is your first impression and the key to being asked to interview for a position. Can you follow directions? Are you thorough? Do you have experience? Do you have any skills that may set you apart from another candidate?

Turning In Your Application Always return your completed application to a manager if possible. If not, get the name of the person who accepts your application, as well as the name and number of the manager(s). To increase your chances of being hired – CALL BACK! Wait two or three days and then call and speak to a manager. Let he or she know who you are and when you turned in your application.

What To Do If… If they have not reviewed your application yet: Thank them and ask if you may call in a few days. If they say, “Yes, but we are not hiring right now”: Ask if they expect to be hiring in the near future and Do they keep your applications on file? If they have looked at it, but decided you are not qualified: Thank them and ask what types of things they are looking for so that you know what you can work on. Congratulations if they say, “Yes, when can you come in for an interview?” !
