Things to bring to school… PE kits- Please keep in school at all times. PE will mostly be on a Monday Welly Boots Bottles- water fountain/ cups are available but bottles can be easier! Swimming- Summer term Book bags with reading record, spelling book and reading book Please ensure everything is named!  L

Home learning Reading: Regular reading recorded within your child’s reading record.  Confident readers make confident writers! Red warning words: Please see the little red warning word book for more information.  Phonics files: The files are a way for your child to revisit the digraphs and trigraphs we learn in school.  Each digraph/grapheme has it's own picture and rhyme to help remember it.  The children have the opportunity to practise reading real words that are fully decodable using their sounds.  The alien nonsense words require the children to sound them out using their phonics skills.  This will support them with the phonics screening check. Sumdog: Please remember to log on to sumdog where children can play fun, educational maths games to support their learning within school. Optional Home Learning: We encourage the children to bring in any resources or projects linked to their current topic. For example they may wish to go to the library to borrow books, paint a picture or build a model. The children can then share their learning with their classmates and display it with our topic display. K

Reading in school… Once a week guided reading- not always recorded as it can take time away from discussions about books with the children 1:2:1 reading Daily phonics/ spelling lessons Other opportunities include: Applied reading, Paired reading, e-books, library sessions, audio books and shared reading with other year groups. L

Our current topic: thE VICTORIANS 2 ‘wow’ days- Victorian School Day and Lanhydrock visit The topic will last up until Christmas Topic maps to follow…. All of our learning will lead to a Victorian Museum where we you can purchase your William Morris Christmas card designs!  If you have any resources or artefacts that can help, please shout! L

Sats Year…. Measure progress within Key Stage One (Reading, Writing and Maths) Assessment is currently made using tests and teacher assessment. The final judgement is based on teacher assessment. This is nothing to be concerned about… more information and guidance will be provided later in the year. K

We are looking forward to the year ahead! Please do come and speak to your child’s class teacher if you have any questions, concerns or ideas.
