Trafalgar square Trafalgar square — a traditional place of meetings, demonstrations, and festivals such as Chinese new year. May 8, 1945, Churchill announced to the gathering in the square Londoners about the victory in the Second world war. Every year on the square is set by the main tree of the country, imported from Norway. In the centre of the square is Nelson's column of dark gray granite with a height of 44 meters, topped by a statue of Admiral Nelson. Four sides of the column is decorated with murals made from melted down and captured by Napoleon's cannons. It was built in 1840-1843, surrounded by sculptures of lions and fountains. The corners of the square — four sculptures. Around the square are national gallery, the Church of St. Martin in the fields (architect. J. Gibbs, 1721), Admiralty Arch and several embassies.

Big-Ben It is believed that the bell was named big Ben (Big Ben) in honor of sir Benjamin Hall, a supervisor of construction works. According to another version, he is named in honor of Benjamin count Russian., popular boxer in the heavy weight.

Hyde Park Even before the Norman conquest, the Park belonged to Westminster Abbey; the name derives from an ancient unit of area measurement. With the beginning of the dissolution of the monasteries (1536) Henry VIII withdrew it in the Treasury, to use for their own hunting pleasure. For the public it was opened by James I, and under Charles II was the favorite place of Londoners.

St Paul's Cathedral The official date of opening of the Cathedral is October 20, 1708 — birth of the architect sir Christopher Wren (that day he was 76 years old), but the actual service at the Cathedral commenced on 2 December 1697. Before the construction of the Wren had actually three times completely change the project. The first project was planned to build on the Foundation of the burned-out fourth Cathedral new big Church. This project was rejected almost immediately — apparently, the authorities wanted something more grandiose. The second project involved the construction of a Church, having in the plan view of a Greek cross. This project was worked out in detail — suffice it to say that until now remained executed in scale 1:24 layout of this Cathedral, which today is exhibited in the Cathedral of St. Paul. However, this project was also rejected as too radical. The third project of Ren involves the construction of a rather large Church with a dome and two bell towers.
