STARTER 4/3 and 4/4 0807.T/E.1 Identify the tools and procedures needed to test the design features of a prototype. 0807.T/E.2 Evaluate the protocol to determine if the engineering process was successfully applied. 0807.T/E.3 Distinguish between the intended benefits and unintended consequences of a new technology. 0807.T/E.4 Differentiate between adaptive and assistive bioengineered products. One volunteer to pass out movie packets from tray. If you have not been here please pick up a packet from the side table. Put your name on it. Ab pair discuss the following: What was the inspiration for Homer’s work with rockets? So far how have you seen the design for the rocket change?

October Sky As we view the movie complete the packet as directed. In addition to the questions keep in mind the set of standards. The main ideas from the standards are: Prototype development and testing Intended benefits/unintended consequences Adaptive vs assistive bioengineered products Be prepared to answer periodic questions relating to these points as we view the movie.

Compare and Contrast On the back of your sheet create another graphic organizer. The two sides should be labeled “Engineering/Design Process” and “Scientific Method”. Compare and contrast the two processes using what you now know of each. Complete the chart as shown.

Writing Consider your cell phone. What was the original intended benefit of that technology? What are some unintended consequences of this technology? Write two paragraphs exploring these questions.

SUMMARY Please answer #4 from page 357 in your journal.
