Today’s agenda The power of brainstorming The brainstorm blueprint Innovate for HCEAinnovate 2020 Create Conditions to Innovate Developing creative and compliant marketing strategies and tactics is no easy task. Success often starts with brainstorming. We’ll cover brainstorming techniques for all project types – whether starting from the ground up or generating new ideas to innovate.   We’ll walk through a brainstorm blueprint to put the ideas into practice for HCEAinnovate 2020. Participants will understand how to formulate a brainstorm session that inspires practical new ideas and actionable improvement strategies.

Co-located with EXHIBITORLIVE Mid-year education and networking Half day workshop Co-located with EXHIBITORLIVE Mid-year education and networking 2020 is the 3rd year following 2 successful runs What is HCEA Innovate? Who has attended?

Why brainstorm? Brainstorming uses the collective mind to meet goals and objectives, find solutions, overcome challenges and solve problems. Brainstorming is about looking for one thing, then coming up with something even better. It can not only be incredibly valuable but exciting, wild and fun—you never know how far it might take you. (CLICK FOR EACH POLL BULLET) Let’s take a quick poll: Who loves brainstorming? Who dreads it? Who wonders how to put the good ideas that come from it into action?

Success starts with preparation: the key elements

The rules Be open Respectful Listen…and build Take notes Identify next steps

The format/environment F2F vs. virtual Session length Stimulate creativity The brainstorm format/environment F2F versus virtual Works virtually—nice to have video screen share Ideal to be in the same room together, like we are! Session length one session versus multiple Prep Creating an atmosphere that stimulates creativity All the touches you see today Styles—not everyone can think of a great idea off the top of their head. Some prep and thought is required to generate meaningful creative

Let’s get brainstorming: HCEAinnovate 2020

The brainstorm leader/moderator Guides the session Prepares the brainstorm blueprint Selects ideal participants The brainstorm leader/moderator Guides and maintains control of the session Prepares the brainstorm blueprint Talk about the Live Marketing “Brainsteer” step. It makes the brainstorm a 2-part process but guarantees success because the team has a chance to ruminate on the input and come to the BS armed with everything from idea kernels, to full blow concept(s) Selects ideal participants (different roles, small group)

Brainstorm goals: Format Room look Speakers Selected theme graphic would be updated (if needed) Goals of the brainstorm 1. Examples: a. Create a theme b. Develop a new booth activity concept c. Uplevel an existing program element 2. HCEAinnovate brainstorm goals: a. Format b. Room look c. Speakers

Brainstorm background: Target audience Tone/style History Budget HCEA’s 3-part audience: associations, companies, “industry”/vendors) Tone/style History of what’s been done previously Budget

What do attendees see, hear, think, feel and do? What is the “WOW”? Other notes: Compliance What do attendees see, hear, think, feel and do? What is the “WOW”? 1. Compliance 2. What do they see, hear, think, feel and do? 3. What is the “WOW”?

Anne facilitates the set up: Each table chooses a leader (1 min) Have each table commit to the slide 7 rules Be open Respectful Listen…and build Take notes (Who is doing this?) Identify next steps (Who is doing this?) Tables chooses their Innovate brainstorm topic (go back to this slide) Need at least one table per topic (15 min bs/5 min room check in/5 min table wrap up report development;/5 min report out) Format (How to make it the best, most engaging agenda: session length(s)?; panel?; Room look (What are innovative room looks and accents? [that are achievable at a low cost) Speakers (things to consider: relevance of topics; male/female mix; nerdy vs. creative;

At the end of the brainstorm: Recap next steps Determine/assign action items Recap next steps/where to go from here

Keep the brainstorm going by joining the 2020 committee Monthly meetings Create a meaningful experience Great community Practice putting brainstorm ideas into action Support HCEA August 26 is our next meeting!!
