How do we Adapt?.
Presentation transcript:

How do we Adapt?

Adapt- to adjust to different conditions and the environment

How do People in Louisiana Adapt to the Environment? Louisiana experiences a lot of flooding

Why does Louisiana experience so much flooding? The land in New Orleans is located below sea level. This means that the land we sit on is lower than the height of the Gulf of Mexico and other bodies of water.

How do we adapt to being Below Sea Level? We build levees to protect our cities, homes, and even crops from flooding. Levees- artificial structure build to protect flooding from a body of water

How do we Adapt to living below sea level? We also raise our homes to avoid flood waters

How have Humans affected the Environment in Louisiana? Air Pollution- Air pollution is when unwanted chemicals, gasses, and particles enter the air and the atmosphere causing harm to animals, plants, and people.

Oil Refineries Do you know what a refinery is? An Oil refinery is a factory where crude oil is transformed or changed and refined into more useful products such as petroleum, gasoline, diesel fuel, heating oil, kerosene, and jet fuel.

Oil Refineries Louisiana is home to MANY refineries that pollute the air

Water Pollution As we have learned, in 2010 there was a major oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. This polluted the land, air, and mostly water. Many animals and fish were killed or harmed.
