Revision For subjects that require students to write an essay, the student can write practice responses. Give to a peer for feedback. Consult with a school tutor for feedback.

Revision For subjects with lots of content, write a summary each week. Give summary to someone at home and get them to ask you questions.

Revision School tutorials are available for most subjects. Encourage your student to attend if they have questions. Look at what the internet provides: Khan Academy Eddie Woo - youtube

Revision Practice does not make perfect. Practice with feedback provides improvement.

Revision Have a technology free break between revision sessions. Do something physical outside - walk the dog.

Non Assignment Strategies

Feedback Journal Students are encouraged to keep a feedback journal. Before students submit their draft, they should check that they have addressed previous feedback.

Check for understanding of the task Draw a picture of a house.

Check for understanding of the task

Check for understanding of the task

Check for understanding of the task Go home and read the task. Make notes on the task sheet. See the teacher out of class and tell the teacher what you think the task is asking you to do.

Examination Strategies

Examination strategy Immediately after perusal, categorize each question with a  (definitely know how to do this question),  (have no idea about this question), ? (have some idea about this question) Complete the  questions first. Complete the ? questions next. Complete the  questions last.

Extended Response Questions Read the question multiple times. Read the question – obtain a general understanding of the question. Re-read the question – what am I required to do? Re-read the question – highlight important words / terms.

Extended Response Questions Answering the question. Time management is key. Always write a plan. Write your draft double spaced – gives you space to edit before writing final copy.

Multiple Choice Questions QAS Question – read the question first. Answer – read all of the answers. Stimulus – look at the stimulus last. Knowing the question and possible answers, you will be reading with a purpose.

Time management Strategies

Home Study Timetable All students need to have a home study timetable. Needs to include allocations for: Homework Assignment Revision Reading Part time work Sport etc

Home Study Timetable Allocate things that occur at a fixed time each week and out of the students control first. For example: School Sport training Home and Away Place the completed document in a prominent space in the home.

Assessment Calendar Create a term planner that lists all of the assessment for the term. Place the completed document in a prominent space in the home.

Next Steps College is exploring providers to explicitly teach Study Skills to Year 11 in Life Skills.
