Hypo #1: You have been elected (promoted) and now you supervise one of your longtime friends. Be friends at work and don’t worry about the other employees. Leave your friendship outside the workplace. Finish your friendship immediately. Be friends but remember to treat ALL employees fairly.
Hypo #2: You supervise Joe and Sheila. Joe has been with the County for 30 years and drives as part of his job. Sheila tells you she’s worried about Joe. Joe has back trouble and told Sheila that his new pain medication makes him sleepy. Ignore the situation. Wait for Joe to tell you about his new meds. Talk with Joe directly. Fire Joe to eliminate a potential vehicle crash.
Hypo #3: One of your female employees comes to you to complain about another department’s male employee hitting on her a lot. You tell your employee to ignore it. You approach the male employee and tell him to stop. You talk to the male employee’s supervisor. You go to the Designated Person to report.
