Physical Rehabilitation and Diagnostic Audiology Section CHAPTER 36 Physical Rehabilitation and Diagnostic Audiology Section
Physical Rehabilitation and Diagnostic Audiology Section The Physical Rehabilitation and Diagnostic Audiology section has a character 1 value of F. Physical rehabilitation procedures include physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology.
Character 2 Value The character 2 values denote the section qualifier. A value of 0 denotes rehabilitation. A value of 1 denotes diagnostic audiology.
Character 3 Values The character 3 values in this section specify the basic types of rehabilitation and diagnostic audiology procedures. There are four basic types of procedures for this section.
Basic Types of Rehabilitation and Diagnostic Audiology Procedures Assessment Includes a determination of the patient’s diagnosis when appropriate, need for treatment, planning for treatment, periodic assessment and documentation related to these activities
Basic Types of Procedures (cont.) Caregiver Training Educating caregiver with the skills and knowledge used to interact with and assist the patient
Basic Types of Procedures (cont.) Fitting(s) Design, fabrication, modification, selection, and/or application of splint, orthosis, prosthesis, hearing aids, and/or other rehabilitation devices
Basic Types of Procedures (cont.) Treatment Use of specific activities or methods to develop, improve, and/or restore the performance of necessary functions, compensate for dysfunction, and/or minimize debilitation
Type Values for Character 3 There are 14 type values in this section for character 3: 0—Speech assessment 1—Motor and/or nerve function assessment 2—Activities of daily living assessment 3—Hearing assessment 4—Hearing aid assessment 5—Vestibular assessment
Type Values for Character 3 (cont.) 6—Speech treatment 7—Motor treatment 8—Activities of daily living treatment 9—Hearing treatment B—Cochlear implant treatment C—Vestibular treatment D—Device fitting F—Caregiver training
Character 4 Character 4 specifies the body region and/or system on which the procedure is performed. Many of the values for character 4 denote the body system and then the specific region of the system. For example, a value of 0 denotes the neurological system and then head and neck.
Character 5 The fifth character is a type qualifier that further specifies the procedure performed. For example, in Table F00 a fifth character value of B identifies motor speech. In Table F01, a fifth character value of 0 denotes muscle performance.
Character 6 Character 6 specifies the equipment used during the procedure. Specific equipment is not defined and broad categories of equipment are specified.
Character 7 In the Physical Rehabilitation and Diagnostic Audiology section, character 7 represents a qualifier. The value is always Z for none.
