Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool

Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool OBJECTIVE: To understand the use and maintenance of the Hydro-Ram ENABLING OJBECTIVES   EO 1-1: The student will understand the use of the Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool E0 1 -2: The student will understand the care and Maintenance of the Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool

Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool OVERVIEW:   Use of the Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool Maintenance of the Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool

Use of Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool Types of doors that HFET can be used on Metal Door, Metal Frame inward swinging Exception - Magnetic Doors (normal outward swinging) Equipment to force door Set of Irons HFET

Use of Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool Hydro Ram 1-piece integrated HFET Maximum thrust opening of 4 inches One-man operation Weighs 11 lbs. and 13 inches long Jaws are special stainless steel with 220,000 tensile strength 10,000 lbs force with 138 lbs. @ the handle

Use of Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool Forcing the Door with HFET Try before you pry Gap the door Using the Adz end Set the tool Insert jaws between door and frame Midway between knob and look Jaws must be in the close position If multiple locks insert between knob and lock, then move Force the door Door should open with several pumps of the handle

Use of Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool Door doesn’t open during initial operations Tool is fully extended and door still does not open Reposition tool on locking device Locate the locking device Wedge door open with head of axe or halligan tool Reposition HFET directly on lock and extend Drive the lock off the door Maintain opening with HFET Drive lock off door with irons

Use of Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool Door doesn’t open during initial operations Tool is fully extended and door still does not open Reposition tool inside door frame Maintain opening with HFET Slip axe or halligan tool into gap and maintain purchase Reposition HFEF inside door frame Extend tool May not work with Hydro Ram Need just a little more Maintain purchase with halligan tool Place head of axe between door and tool Extend

Use of Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool Magnetic Lock These types of locks are normally on outward opening doors. This is an exception to the use of HFET Place Halligan through door with adz end toward you Place jaw of HFET behind the adz end Pump tool using door frame at the base Pull door away from magnetic lock

Care and Maintenance Tool with develop 31,000 lbs. of force before internal “implosion seal” fails Three stage hydraulic system 0- 400 lbs. of load it will extend ¾ inch per pump 400- 1200 lbs. of load it will extend ¼ inch per pump Over 1200 lbs. of load will extend 1/8 inch per pump Quickly take up the slack in a door/frame being forced, then apply a measure amount of force to break it.

Care and Maintenance The hydraulics are fully sealed pressurized unit Uses Propylene Glycol as the fluid agent Safe to get it in your eyes or on your skin Basically just anti freeze, so cold weather doesn’t effect operation

Care and Maintenance Check status of Hydraulic system Fully extend the shaft, till you see a nickel sized hole above where the shaft extends from the body Insert screwdriver all the way into the hole, mark the depth and remove it Measure the depth marked on the screwdriver If measures more than 5 inches, the tools has lost it charge and needs to be service by the manufacturer

Care and Maintenance Check the position of the release lever when its in the closed position Spring loaded lever operates a ball seat valve If out of adjustment, the ball won’t seat properly and you won’t be able to properly develop pressure In the normally closed position, it should be between 10 o’clock and 11 o’clock If lever is at or beyond 12 o’clock it needs to be adjusted

Care and Maintenance It’s a fully sealed pressurized unit Only maintenance required is regular cleaning and exercise Do not open any seals or plugs Tool may be completely submerged in water for cleaning Has been successfully used for underwater vehicle extrication

Care and Maintenance After cleaning, fully extend the cylinder, wipe it with a clean rag, and oil the shaft with 3 in 1 oil If there are any black streaks on the shaft, you should clean them with meal polish, then reapply oil After oiling, exercise the tool under load. Tool should be exercised every two weeks Can not just extend the tool. Tool should be exercised under a load

Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool REVIEW:   Use of the Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool Maintenance of the Hydraulic Forcible Entry Tool
