Certificates of Origin The 1923 Geneva Convention named Chambers of Commerce the official body to issue, sign and stamp Certificates of Origin worldwide. Chambers of Commerce are asked to stamp and sign documents called certificates of origin. These certificates are prepared by exporting companies (or their agents, known as freight forwarders) to show where their products were made. For chambers, the key task is not to find where the products were made, but to check that the documents are correctly completed, the certificate of origin matches the commercial invoice, and the document is signed by a designated person from the exporter. Many chambers do not charge for this service, but ACCE recommends that they do.

Chamber Foundations Foundations with a 501 (c) (3) non-profit status are granted federal tax exemptions by the IRS based on its recognition of charitable programs. Contributions made to a foundation are tax-deductible contributions.

Gift Certificate Programs/ Chamber Bucks Gift certificate programs are a great way to support your local businesses. Nothing says we’re here for you more than creating money that can only be spent in your community at their business. As a benefit…when those dollars don’t get spent before the expiration date then that money becomes revenue for your Chamber.

Chamber Travel Organizing and participating in group travel in your community is a great way to get people involved while earning some revenue. Typically, a chamber earns a set dollar amount per traveler, and most companies allow one free traveler from your organization to go on the trip as a representative.

Publications Many chambers publish items such as directories, maps and even tourism brochures and websites as both a member service and as a way to diversify income. These publications are useful for community members, tourists and are also beneficial to local businesses. There are now cutting edge opportunities in the electronic world such as online directories and mobile applications, as well. The sale of these items as well as the money earned from advertising in these publications produces profits for the chamber and provides an excellent membership benefit. Tap into your city/tourism for funding also!

Sponsorships Forging partnerships that are mutually beneficial can provide more than just a lump sum of cash. Membership levels– Annual Sponsorships Trade Agreements (money you don’t have to spend is revenue too!) Event Sponsorship Program Sponsorships For chambers that want to succeed in sponsorships, it is crucial that they fulfil all contractual obligations. This ensures that the relationship (and funding) continues.
